ENVIRONMENTAL | GREEN BUILDING STANDARDS
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system to provide a national standard for green building design. The rating system is based on achieving a certain number of points, which are allocated for design choices defined within the standard. Flooring can indeed play a vital role in environmentally responsible projects. Although only buildings can contribute to LEED certification, flooring can contribute to earning LEED points in several categories. Aside from the LEED system, SCS is committed to making ongoing improvements with every key attribute that makes a floor "green" beginning with social responsibility and recycled content to extending the product life cycle with design and environmentally friendly installation techniques.
